Born
Again-Saved, Converted
By: Pastor Samuel Payne
John 3:1-8
3:1- “MAN OF
THE PHARISEES”
Pharisees: a
very religious sect of that day.
3:1- “ RULER
OF THE JEWS”
Nicodemus was
a leader of his people. Therefore, this shows us Nicodemus was a
smart man as well as a man that dealt with people all the time.
By being a “Ruler” he had to make some big decisions, which involved
the lives of those, he served.
3:2- “We Know..
Thou art a teacher come from God”
Nicodemus knew
enough from his religious teachings and the word to evaluate the
validity of what Jesus had said; plus the miracles that were taking
place to know that Jesus was truly of God!
3:3 – “I SAY
UNTO THEE
Remember Jesus
knew he was talking to a religious man that belonged to a denomination
called the Pharisees. Just like today he would be talking to a Methodist,
Baptist, Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Pentecostal, Charismatic,
etc…
3:3- “BE BORN
AGAIN”
According to
Jesus, if you weren’t born again you couldn’t see the kingdom of
God. Even if you were religious, this requirement to be born again
was still firm.
3:4 – “SECOND
TIME INTO HIS MOTHER’S WOMB”
Nicodemus is
thinking totally in the physical realm. You can only be born physically
once.
3:5- “BORN OF
WATER AND OF THE SPIRIT”
Baptize= to
dip into, plunge under, dye a cloth
Born= spring
out of, spring forth
Some people
try to confuse baptism with born again. When in actuality they are
totally opposite in meaning. To further understand verse 5, one
must put verses 5 & 6 together to get the context of scripture.
