LEAVE AND CLEAVE


Leave – forsake, leave behind, depart from
Cleave – to cling to, stay close, join to,

 

Relationship to God

 

1. Deuteronomy 10:20-21 – “to him (God) shalt thou cleave”
2. Deut. 11:22-23 – to cleave unto him (God)
3. Deut. 13:4 – cleave unto him (God)
4. Deut. 30:19-20 – cleave unto him (LORD thy God)
5. Joshua 22:5 – commandment and law – to cleave unto him
6. Joshua 23:8-9 – cleave unto the LORD – as ye have done unto this day
7. Jeremiah 13:1-11 – verse 11 – house of Israel and Judah to cleave unto me
8. Acts 11:22-24 – with purpose of heart they would cleave unto the Lord
9. 1st Corinthians 6:15-17 – he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit
        joined – to glue together, fasten together, cleave to, join one’s self to

How would you describe your present status of being joined to the Lord?
Commanded? With purpose of heart? Glue’s getting old? Hot Glued – only
good for temporary decorations? Super Glued - one minded all the time?
Do others see you and Jesus as one?

 

 

Husband – Wife Relationship

 

1. Genesis 2:24 – leave his father and mother and shall cleave unto his wife
               Man leave – depart from
               Man Cleave – glued together, glue to, glue upon, join one’s self closely to

Man’s responsibility is to cleave to his wife.
How can the wife make herself easy to be glued to in spirit, soul, and body?

 

2. Matthew 19:3-9 – vs. 5 “for this cause” – divorce or putting away
               Man Leave – father and mother
               Man Cleave – to his wife (not wives)

Are you one with your spouse or Lord Jesus in all areas of your life?

 

3. Mark 10:2-12 – vs.6 - from the beginning of the creation
                               vs. 7 – for this cause – divorce

               Man leave – father and mother
               Man Cleave – to his wife

Are you allowing God to join (glue) you together in all areas of your life?

 

4. Romans 12:9 - Cleave to the which is good (Proverbs 18:22 )
